After Madras High Court directed to ban popular lip-syncing app TikTok, the parent company China’s Bytedance requested Supreme Court to reject the orders on the App ban and said that this decision would hurt free speech rights.

This Chinese startup has gained a lot of popularity in a short span of time. The video app has become so popular and it lets the users create and share short videos online. Also, the app has attracted a rural audience too.

The app ‘s popularity is evident from the fact that it has been downloaded 240 million times in India and it also enables the users to easily share the video on other platforms on social media like Facebook and Twitter.

The parent company said in the statement “A ban amounts to curtailing of the rights of the citizens of India…who have been using the platform every day to express them and create content”.

The next hearing will be held on Monday and the company has requested SC to review the decision on the app ban.

For those unaware, Madras High Court has directed the government to ban TikTok because it encouraged pornography and made child users vulnerable to sexual predators. The court also mentioned that the app’s inappropriate content was a dangerous aspect of TikTok.

In the application to the court, the company has stated that the App was primarily used for circulation amusing videos and it also said that TikTok app is not liable for the content that the users post on it. It stated that because of the immense popularity, this controversy on the app has been raised.
