New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) Senior Congress leader Rajeev Shukla on Saturday welcomed the Supreme Court verdict in the Ayodhya title dispute case and said that the party was never in the race for taking credit as it wanted an amicable solution to the issue.

“Congress is not in the fight of taking credit or discredit. Congress always wanted amicable solution and today Supreme Court has given its verdict and gave a solution to it and we respect it,” Shukla told IANS.

The Congress leader said that in 1993, the Congress government had acquired the entire land on which the court has given the verdict on Saturday.

When asked if the Supreme Court has respected the faith of all parties, Shukla said, “I think all people should respect the judgement and the court has given the best judgement keeping in mind all faiths.”

His remarks came soon after the Supreme Court in a historic judgement in the sensitive Ayodhya title dispute case directed the Centre to form within three months a trust which will build a temple at the disputed site.

To a question on the BJP always politicising the issue of Ram temple construction, the Congress leader said, “The BJP has always done politics on Ram temple, for them politics is important, but for Congress it is the solution which is important.”

Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also welcomed the Apex court decision and said everyone should respect it.
