Delhi’s Covid-19 tally has crossed the 31,000-mark with the death toll at 905, latest figures released by the Arvind Kejriwal government reveal, even as the Capital sees a slugfest over the pandemic which has infected more than 2.6 lakh people in the country.

The Delhi government said the national capital itself may see 5.5 lakh cases by July-end at the current rate.

According to the latest figures, Delhi recorded 1,366 new cases, taking the total to 31,309 and 31 deaths adding up to 905 in the last 24 hours.

Two COVID-19 patients in Kerala commit suicide, probe ordered

Kerala health minister KK Shailaja on Wednesday ordered an investigation after two patients committed suicide in a dedicated COVID-19 ward at the Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, The Indian Express reported.

"The Principal Secretary (Health) has been directed to carry out a probe and submit a report at the earliest. Around 11:30 am, nurses found a resident of Anadu in Thiruvananthapuram district hanging by a rope inside the Covid-19 isolation ward. Though hospital staff brought him down and admitted him to the intensive care unit, he lost his life," the report said.

Punjab govt may use GPS trackers for people in home quarantine

The Punjab government is mulling procurement of Global Positioning System (GPS) trackers for keeping a check on those flouting COVID-19 home quarantine guidelines.

The trackers fitted with a SIM card can be integrated with the state government's COVA app for tracking those home quarantined people who defy guidelines, putting the lives of others in danger, an official said on Wednesday.

The COVA Punjab (Corona Virus Alert) App has been developed by the state government to provide people with preventive care information and other government advisories.
