Indian Couple and 3-Month-Old Grandchild Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision: Police chased a liquor store robbery suspect driving the wrong way, killing an Indian couple visiting Canada and their three-month-old grandson.

A high-speed chase led Durham police to a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Whitby, about 50 km east of Toronto, after the robbery suspect led police on a high-speed chase on Highway 401.

At the scene, all four people, including the suspect in the robbery, were pronounced dead.

Two of the victims, a 60-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman, were visiting from India, according to Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

In addition to the couple’s three-month-old grandson, Highway 401 was closed for several hours after the accident on Monday, according to the SIU.

Neither the infant’s father, 33, nor his mother, 27, were injured in the crash, but the mother has serious injuries, according to the SIU.

Officials said the deadly car chase began with a liquor store robbery in Bowmanville and ended around 20 minutes later with at least six vehicles involved.

The autopsy for the victims was conducted in Toronto on Wednesday, after a 38-year-old male passenger of the cargo van was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Indian High Commission in Ottawa also expressed its condolences: “Heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of Indian nationals Mr. Manivannan and Mrs. Mahalakshmi along with their grandchild on Highway 401.”.

CG met with the bereaved family at the hospital and assured them of all possible assistance. We are in touch with Canadian authorities,” the high commission said.

This case is still being investigated by seven investigators, one forensic investigator, and one collision reconstructionist, according to the statement.

Milica Maljkovic Birkett, a witness to the fatal police chase and lucky escape, said she didn’t have time to think. The SIU is called in whenever there are allegations of sexual assault.
