According to the news of Times of India, the company developed Corona drugs in collaboration with government laboratories, as well as the use of medicines for asthma, anti-viral drugs, and HIV medicines. For this, Cipla has sought help from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology to manufacture active pharma ingredients (APIs).
ICT director S Chandrasekhar and lead scientist Pratham S Menkar said that Cipla president YK Hamid had approached them regarding the preparation of anti-viral compound – favipiravir, remedies via and bolacavir. He said that a number of anti-viral drugs had been discovered over the years, but were halted after clinical trials due to decreased demand.
In a conversation with the Times of India, the promoter of Cipla pharmaceutical company Yusuf Hamid said that we are considering it a national duty to put all our resources for the benefit of the country. He also said that the company is doubly producing these drugs.
