After the announcement of Unlock 2.0 on July 1, Delhi government has provided some relaxations for different sectors. The government is yet to resume the doorstep delivery project services.

This has led to countless people queuing up outside the district revenue offices for certificates needed to apply to colleges/jobs are suffering as 70 services from 10 different departments, including those of social welfare, transport, and food and supplies, among others that were to be provided by the Delhi government under its doorstep delivery of services project.

According to Hindustan Times, 18-year-old Shikhar Arora who is a resident of Krishna Nagar, East Delhi, needed an income certificate of his family which he needs urgently to apply to the Delhi University. However, he returned disappointed from the subdivisional magistrate’s office.

“I have been going to the office for nearly a month, but have not been able to get the certificate. They have now asked me to apply online,” Arora said Hindustan Times.

Ananya Mandal who is also is seeking admission to BA (Hons) in Economics at DU said, “I was told that we will have to apply online since the staff at the SDM’s office are currently busy with Covid-19 duty. I tried to fill the form online but that the portal was not working properly. Still, I managed to apply for the certificate online and submitted the acknowledgement slip along with my admission form. But I don’t know by when I would get the certificate itself”.

A senior official at SDM Mehrauli said, “We are accepting applications online. We are trying to clear all EWS and income certificate related applications at the earliest as these are required by students.

Delhi government launched a scheme for home delivery of 40 essential public services like caste and marriage certificates, driving license and new water connections, using the helpline 1076. The government has claimed that no citizen of Delhi would have to stand in queues for the services listed under the scheme.

Implemented by the Administrative Reforms Department of the Delhi government, the scheme was launched in September 2018. The AAP government had allotted Rs 18 crore for the scheme in the Budget 2019-20, which was later revised to Rs10 crore.

To avail of the doorstep delivery, citizens can book an appointment online through www.edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in or www.delhi.gov.in or dial 1076 helpline. They can also visit the regional transport office or offices of sub-divisional magistrates in Delhi.
