Coronavirus outbreak: Police filed case against 75 persons for giving rousing reception to TV show contestants at Kochi airport

Kochi: When the government is requesting people to exercise caution and avoid going to crowded places, public gatherings to prevent novel coronavirus spread.

However, the Kerala police on Sunday have booked a case of giving rousing reception to a group of TV show contestants at the Kochi International Airport amid coronavirus scare under severe restrictions.

A collector in the Ernakulam district informed that the case had been booked against 4 known persons and 75 persons found to have violated the rules.

During an ongoing panic situation, when the whole country is exercising caution during the coronavirus outbreak, a group of TV show contestants was given an exciting reception by their Fans Association near the airport premises on Sunday midnight and this brought shame to every Malayali.

Even when socio-cultural and religious groups prevent large-scale gatherings for the safety of common citizens, such celebrations can be seen with a blind eye, added the district collector.

District collectors said in his Facebook post that the irresponsible behaviour by some people brings disgrace to Malayalis in the eyes of the nation.

Meanwhile, Kerala confirmed two more cases of coronavirus on Sunday, as per Kerala health minister K.K. Shailaja, taking the state’s total tally of Covid-19 patients to 24, the second highest among Indian states. Three of them had recovered fully earlier.
