While many go missing in the mountains after fatal accidents and their bodies are never seen again, this Swiss couple was found frozen after 75 years of their disappearance. They disappeared from their farm on August 15, 1942, after leaving to milk their cows in a meadow near their home. They never returned to their family, leaving behind 6 children.

Marceline and Francine Dumoulin mummified corpses were revealed after a glacier shrunk in the Swiss Alps. A worker found the frozen bodies of a man and a woman last week during routine maintenance. The corpses were preserved in the now receding Tsanfleuron Glacier, near a slew of trendy ski resorts at 2,600 meters (8,500 feet) above sea level.

“The bodies were lying near each other. It was a man and a woman wearing clothing dating from the period of World War II,” Glacier 3000 director Bernhard Tschannen told local media, according to Reuters. “They were perfectly preserved in the glacier and their belongings were intact.”

DNA testing would be carried out to confirm the identities of the couple.
