CWC 2019: Virat Kohli fined 25% of his match fee for breaching ICC Code of Conduct during Ind vs Afghanistan match

International Cricket Council (ICC) has penalised India skipper Virat Kohli for approaching umpire Aleem Dar in an aggressive manner during a tense World Cup win over Afghanistan on Saturday, June 23.

Kohli has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Kohli was found to have breached Article 2.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “Excessive appealing during an International Match”.

A statement from the ICC said that Kohli “advanced towards umpire Aleem Dar in an aggressive manner when appealing an lbw decision.”

Kohli, who top scored (67) in the match, has accepted the sanction and therefore there will not be a formal hearing.

The India skipper now has two demerit points on his record. When a player accumulates four or more within a 24-month timeframe, they are converted into suspension points and a player is banned.
