Coach Tata Martino has added Julian Gressel, a former Atlanta United player and U.S. international, as a midfield reinforcement.

Experience in MLS

The German player possesses considerable MLS experience. He made his debut that year after Atlanta United selected him with the eighth overall pick in the 2017 SuperDraft. He participated in 107 MLS appearances throughout three seasons, contributing to the team’s MLS Cup, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and Campeones Cup victories in 2018 and 2019, respectively, and earning the MLS Young Player of the Year award in 2017 following an outstanding rookie campaign.

Washington, D.C. United, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Before joining the Vancouver Whitecaps, he spent two and a half seasons with D.C. United from 2020 to 2022, during which time he appeared in 56 games and recorded four goals and sixteen assists. Gressel then contributed to the team’s back-to-back Canadian Soccer Championship victories in 2022 and 2023. In a season and a half, he appeared in 31 MLS games, netting five goals and supplying seven assists.
