Ahmedabad: In view of the general elections, two Congress party leaders had resigned on Friday, damage the party prospects further in the state Congress. While, one legislator joined the ruling BJP government, the other would soon announce the decision to join the saffron party.

Chavda got the benefit of leaving Congress. On Saturday, he was given the minister’s post in the Gujarat government. He was administered the oath of office in the state capital, Gandhi Nagar. Chavda joined the BJP at the party headquarters in while Sabariah announced that he would soon be joining the ruling party.

Legislator Jawahar Chawda from Manavadar seat held his resignation and BJP’s bid for Gujarat Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi Friday afternoon.

After Kunvarji Bavaliya and Asha Patel, Jawahar Chavda had become the third Congress MLA to resign from the current Gujarat Legislative Assembly. Congress’s strength in Assembly has now reduced to 73. He is likely to contest from Junagadh Lok Sabha.

The news of his resignation had come only a day after speculations rose of that the Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor may join Bharatiya Janata Party soon.

He is a 4 time MLA from Manavadar. He is won from this seat at the 1990, 2007, 2012 and 2017 Legislative election
