Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel convicted in rioting case

Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel was on Friday, October 11, convicted in a rioting case causing hurt at the realtor’s situated in an East Delhi colony in 2015.

Mr Goel, who is Member of Legislative Assembly from Shahdara, has been convicted under Section 448 of the India Penal Code (IPC) for house-trespass. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on October 18.

According to the complaint the AAP MLA had allegedly raided the house of Manish Ghai a local builder, accusing him of stashing liquor, blankets for distribution ahead of the elections.

The charge sheet in the case was filed in September 2017 and has names of seven persons as accused.

“As per the complainant, some labourers were staying at a house that was owned by him. He received a call from one of them at about 9.30 pm on February 6, 2015 about Goel and his associates forcibly entering the building and damaging the property,” the police said in the chargesheet, according to a DNA report.
