The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is expected to challenge the Delhi High Court’s verdict on the jurisdiction of the national capital region in the Supreme Court. Saying justice will be served in the Supreme Court, AAP leader Ashutosh said the government’s counsel will immediately file an appeal to the verdict.

“Supreme Court has the final word in such matters. We believe we will get justice in the apex court. The Narendra Modi government is trying to dislodge the AAP government in Delhi,” Ashutosh said.

On hearing a slew of petitions over the jurisdiction of the national capital region, the Delhi High Court on Thursday upheld Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung as the administrative head. The court observed that Jung, who represents the Centre, doesn’t need to act as per the advice of the state Cabinet; the Cabinet cannot take decisions without referring to Jung.

The court said the Centre’s order barring the Anti-Corruption Bureau from proceeding against central government employees is neither illegal nor unsustainable. It also observed that the AAP government’s order appointing Commission of Inquiry in the CNG fitness scam and DDCA scam is illegal as it was issued without the approval of the Lieutenant Governor.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is currently undergoing a mediation course in vipassana in Dharamsala. Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia is in-charge till he returns.
