Delhi Metro Achieves Landmark: On Monday, August 28th, approximately 68,166,000 commuters utilised the Delhi Metro. According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), this is the greatest number of daily commuters between the outbreak of COVID-19 and the present.

According to the relevant officials, the previous record for the most passengers travelling in a single day was 66,18,717 on February 10, 2020. Officials noted that the increase in ridership typically occurs on Raksha Bandhan, but this year it occurred a few days earlier.

The DMRC congratulated itself in a statement on Monday’s record-breaking 68,166,000 passenger journeys, claiming that it had reached a significant milestone. In addition, this phenomenon marked the highest daily passenger journeys ever recorded before or after the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.

The DMRC continued in its statement that this is a significant milestone that followed a period of difficulties and reflects the resilience and confidence of the Delhi-NCR residents in the world-class transport system provided by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

The official stated that the accomplishment is a testament to the dedication of the Delhi Metro’s staff and the support of Delhi-NCR residents. This is also a commitment to providing safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable transport services, they added.

The DMRC stated that they continue to prioritise passenger safety and comfort while enhancing connectivity in the National Capital Region. The Metro Rail Corporation added that this achievement exemplifies the mission to provide accessible, dependable, and environmentally responsible transportation solutions.

On May 3, DMRC Chief Vikas Kumar spoke at the Metro Bhawan in the national capital on the occasion of the corporation’s 29th foundation day. He stated that the Delhi Metro had responded to the challenges posed by COVID-19 with agility and resiliency, and that ridership was approximately 90% of the pre-COVID level.
