The ISBT model of Delhi may soon to be replicated in Gorakhpur. According to sources, the Delhi transport department said the UP Transport Minister Swatantra Dev Singh is expected to visit the Maharana Pratap ISBT, an inter-state bus terminus to study the model.
As per a senior official, the UP government intends to build a multi-facility ISBT in Gorakhpur district, the same district from where UP CM Adityanath has been a five-time Member of Parliament. Special Commissioner (transport) K K Dahiya confirmed the move but refused to disclose further details.
The freshly renovated Maharana Pratap ISBT is an inter-state bus terminus which has facilities on par with an airport. The ISBT caters to buses which go towards Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana. Along with other facilities, it also has an air-conditioned waiting hall, food court, glass elevators, separate resting lounges for women and accessible hotels to cater those visiting Delhi. Additionally, it is well connected with the neighboring Metro station and a dedicated city bus network (DTC depot).
Apart from this, the ISBT has a separate section for the parking of air-conditioned buses going outside Delhi. As per the plan, Delhi government will install GPS-enabled machine meant for informing the timing of the departure of buses.
