Dharavi Redevelopment Plan: The big household survey happening in Dharavi is now almost over. Officials said that the door-to-door survey work will stop after August 12, 2025. After this date, survey teams will not visit houses anymore.

But if any resident who missed the survey calls the helpline and shows up at the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) or NMDPL offices with the right papers, they can still be added. Officials shared this on Thursday and made it clear that people who didn’t take part so far should act fast.

Latest data show that over 87,000 homes have finished the survey, and more than one lakh homes have been marked on the map in different parts of Dharavi.

“In total, around 1.20 lakh tenements have been mapped and are expected to be built in Dharavi, Kurla, Mulund, Kanjurmarg, Bhandup and Mukteshwar. No new door-to-door survey visits will be carried out after Aug 12, 2025, for areas covered already. It will be considered that those who did not take part chose to opt out of the Government scheme. They can, however, submit their requests later once Draft Annexure-II is announced,” a DRP official said.

“Those who haven’t participated so far for any reason should do so immediately. Since most of Dharavi has been covered, we don’t see the need for further door-to-door visits,” the official added.

However, they still have a chance to get in later when the Draft Annexure-II comes out, if they go and apply.

“Only those few pockets are remaining where there is still some dilemma/to extort more like private landowners, and some areas like Kumbharwada and Compound 13. Whenever any resident calls the helpline with valid documents, teams will immediately include them in the survey list,” the official said.

The authorities also reminded everyone that this is the final part of the survey, and people who didn’t get surveyed should not waste time now. They repeated that they’ve already shared many times that the survey work is nearly done and people need to come forward quickly.

Shops Without Ownership Will Get Space Too

In another update, the state government has now approved a new plan that will help even commercial units that don’t own the space they use. The idea is to let shopkeepers and small businesses, even if they are not legal owners, get a space in the new rehabilitation buildings under the 10% commercial area reserved.

This means both legal and not-yet-legal shops and businesses in Dharavi will get a chance to keep working inside the area. This is seen as a good move to protect the business life and economy of Dharavi.

“The Dharavi Redevelopment Project is planned as a self-contained ecosystem, a city within a city. The government doesn’t want anyone to be left out in this housing-for-all, largest urban rejuvenation project in the country’s history,” the DRP official said, reported Freepress journal.
