DMRC Adds 24 Extra Delhi Metro Trips: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced an increase in train frequency on Mondays by adding 24 extra metro trips across its network starting May 18, 2026. The move comes amid rising passenger rush and a renewed push towards fuel conservation and sustainable urban transport in Delhi-NCR.
According to DMRC, six additional trains will be deployed every Monday to handle the heavy commuter load usually witnessed after weekends. Officials said the decision is aimed at encouraging more people to switch from private vehicles to public transport as traffic congestion and fuel consumption continue to rise in the national capital.

The corporation also stated that additional train services could be introduced on other weekdays depending on commuter demand in the coming weeks. The latest operational tweak is expected to help office-goers, students, and regular commuters, who rely in a big way on the Delhi Metro network for moving around Delhi NCR day by day.
Why is DMRC increasing the Metro frequency?
This decision matches with the Delhi government’s continuing efforts to encourage public transit, and to cut down on fuel dependency and all that. Initiatives such as “Monday Metro” and “No Vehicle Day” are encouraging residents to prefer metro services over private cars and bikes.
Delhi Metro currently serves millions of passengers daily and connects major railway stations, airport terminals, interstate bus terminals, RRTS corridors, Noida Metro, and Rapid Metro Gurgaon.

Extra Security And Passenger Facilities
To manage the expected increase in footfall, DMRC has strengthened station-level arrangements by deploying:
- Additional security personnel
- More ticket counters
- Extra baggage scanners
- Faster frisking facilities during peak hours
Officials said these measures are intended to ensure smoother passenger movement and reduce waiting times at busy metro stations.
Last-Mile Connectivity
DMRC also reiterated its focus on improving last-mile connectivity across the city. Services like e-rickshaws, e-autos, bike taxis, feeder buses, cab aggregators, and bicycle rentals are already running at something around 160 metro stations, and they serve nearly one lakh commuters per day.
Also, passengers are being pushed to try digital ticketing, for example QR code tickets, WhatsApp ticket booking, National Common Mobility Cards , and ticketing via apps such as Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon, and IRCTC.
These digital setups are expected to cut down on lineups and make station entry faster, especially during peak hours .
