Difference between Lime and Lemon

On the scientific aspect, a lime is called Citrus Aurantifolia and lemon is Citrus Limon. Generally, the basic difference is figured by their size and colour. A lime is smaller and green in colour whereas lemon is yellow and bigger. The skin is thin in the case of line than in lemon. Both of them are generally sour and one can feel a slight taste difference between the two of them. The ones very particular about taste can judge it quite well. Lemons contain more citric acid that is why they tend to be sourer.

Nutritional content of Lime and Lemon

Lime and lemon both have the same amount of nutrients and are a rich source in Vitamin B9 and Vitamin C. compared to the lemon, lime has more carbs and less protein but doesn’t make much difference on an individual’s consumption. Lime and lemon has a large amount of Vitamin C present in them and doesn’t have other mineral content.

Health Benefits of Lime and Lemon

The major benefit of both the citric fruits is that they have anti-cancerous properties that give us a strong reason to include it in our diet. They both are rich in anti-oxidant that improves the immune system. They also help in proper digestion and that is why people prefer to have lemon juice after a meal.  Another benefit is that in summers the body should be hydrated and for that lemon juice is one of the best ways to keep the body cool from inside. Another benefit of Vitamin C is that it helps to reduce wrinkling skin, dry skin and skin damage due to the sun.

Lastly, both lime and lemon have similar properties and both are important for the body. If you are not so particular about taste, using lime and lemon won’t make much difference. Since lemon has a richer source of Vitamin C it tends to be more beneficial than limes.
