Gurugram-Sohna elevated highway to be ready by June next year, Vehicles fees Manhattan, This week, the Delhi government started a strict rule where petrol pumps in the city are not allowed to give fuel to old cars and bikes. People quickly shared their anger online. Many rushed to sell their vehicles for very low prices. Some even had their vehicles taken away by the traffic police. On just the first day, officials seized more than a dozen vehicles from petrol stations. The rule says diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol ones older than 15 years can’t get fuel anymore. It doesn’t matter if the vehicle is registered in Delhi or somewhere else. If someone tries to refuel an old car or bike, the vehicle can be seized or even scrapped. This means it might be destroyed and not allowed back on the road. Public Questions Fairness as Vehicles Get Seized People on social media started asking questions and showing frustration. One user on X wrote, “Why are we paying road tax for 15 years for diesel cars but the have to be scrapped in 10 years. Please enlighten me.” Another person commented, “15 years old car in NCR is not even utilised 30% of its actual capacity. This rule is ridiculous. Government needs to reconsider this.” A third post said, “We pay Motor Vehicle Tax for 15 years. We are allowed to drive them only for 10 years in Delhi. The longevity and durability of cars has decreased tremendously.” People pointed out that diesel vehicles come with a 15-year road tax, but they are not even allowed to drive for that long in Delhi. Many called it unfair. Some people said they had not even used their cars fully before they were forced to stop using them. Traffic Police Say They Are Following Court Orders On Tuesday, 16 vehicles were taken away from fuel stations. Most of them were two-wheelers, according to the Delhi Traffic Police. Special CP Traffic Management, Ajay Chaudhary, explained the action. He said, “We are following the orders of the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT), from today, 10-15 year old vehicles will not get diesel and petrol from any petrol pump… Traffic police have seized 16 vehicles at various petrol pumps…most of them are motorcycles,…due to more awareness in the media, advertisements, many people were aware and therefore fewer vehicles were coming, and people are contemplating how to move these vehicles away from Delhi.” Because the rule was widely shared in news and ads, many people already knew about it and avoided going to the pumps. But now, they are trying to figure out how to get rid of their old cars or move them out of Delhi, Dwarka Expressway Toll
