The National Commission for Women (NCW) directs the Director General of Police & State Police Chief, Kerala to investigate the matter after a Democratic Youth Federation of India’s (female) leader alleged a CPI(M) legislator, P Sasi of sexual abuses. The NCW has asked DGP Loknath Behera to keep the commission informed about the action they take and has insisted on a speedy trial. The panel terms the MLA P Sasi’s conduct as a deeply disturbing incident.
“NCW has also directed him to apprise the commission about the action taken in the matter and ensure speedy delivery of justice to the victim,” the NCW said.

The petitioner is a woman leader of the Democratic Youth Federation of India’s (DYFI) youth wing of CPI(M). She has levelled sexual harassment charges against the Shonur MLA. The commission action assumes significance since it has come in the scrim of the state women’s commission making it clear that it cannot suo motu register a case against the MLA because the petition has been filed before the party.
“The NCW took cognizance of various media reports published on September 5, 2018, according to which a woman leader has accused the Shoranur MLA of sexual assault at the party office in Manarcaud of Palakkad, in Kerala,” read a tweet.
NCW has written to the Director General of Police & State Police Chief, Kerala giving directions that the matter be investigated. NCW has also directed him to apprise the Commission about the action taken in the matter and ensure speedy delivery of justice to the victim.

NCW has also tweeted about the incident from the commission’s Twitter account and has also written a complaint to the director general of police and state police chief. The matter is being investigated by the police.
