In a latest development, the Election Commission has cancelled the Anantnag Lok Sabha bypoll, saying that the ground situation is not favorable to hold free and fair elections in the valley state.
Earlier, the bypoll was slated to be held on April 12. However, it was postponed for May 25 owing to poor law and order situation.
The Commission issued the order late last night.
It said non-availability of adequate number of security personnel was another reason to call off the poll process.
A fresh date would be announced later as per the 10-page order issued by the EC.
