Multiple people are dead and three people are in custody after a shooting Saturday morning at an El Paso, Texas Walmart, according to authorities.
At least two gunmen turned a Texas Walmart into a slaughterhouse Saturday, killing multiple people, police said. Police, who first reported the shooting shortly after 11 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time, said the scene is now under control.
“We’re searching multiple scenes, but primarily the Walmart,” said Sgt. Enrique Carrillo of the El Paso Police Department, pointing to a nearby mall as another area of focus. “There is not an imminent threat. There is no active shooter currently.”
Mayor Dee Margo told CNN three people are in custody, but he did not give a number of victims.
“This is a tragedy we would have never ever thought would happen in El Paso,” he said.
The police department tweeted to stay away from the Cielo Vista Mall area. The police also said people should avoid the area from Airway Boulevard to Hawkins Boulevard to north of Interstate 10, near the Walmart.
