Elon Musk Arrives in China Days After Postponing India Visit: After deferring his trip to India, Elon Musk arrived in Beijing on Sunday.
Elon Musk arrived in Beijing this afternoon at the invitation of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, according to CCTV.
Bloomberg reports that Musk is in China for talks about Tesla’s Full Self-Driving, or FSD.
A new version of Tesla’s Autopilot technology, FSD, is expected to be released in new markets soon.
There has been a ban on its vehicles from military compounds in China and other government venues in the past due to concerns about cybersecurity.
In Tesla’s earnings call earlier this month, Musk said, “We plan to release it as a supervised autonomy system in any country where we can obtain regulatory approval, which we think includes China.”
It has reduced EV prices in key markets such as the US and China as part of its biggest job cut ever.
To address the company’s anemic growth outlook, the company pledged to launch lower-cost EVs as soon as this year.
China media reported that Tesla axed all Chinese graduate offers in its latest round of job cuts at its Shanghai factory, established in 2019.
Musk deferred his high-profile trip to India days before the China visit.
“Unfortunately, very heavy Tesla obligations require that the visit to India be delayed, but I do very much look forward to visiting later this year,” the billionaire posted on X, the social platform he bought in 2022.
