US Envoy Garcetti Lauds Indian-Origin CEOs: US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti recently praised Indian-born CEOs of top US companies like Microsoft, Google, and Starbucks.

It used to be a joke that Indians couldn’t be CEOs in the US, but now it’s reversed.

Garcetti told news agency ANI, “There was an old joke that Indians couldn’t become CEOs in the US.

People have come and made a big difference in America, whether it is Google, Microsoft or Starbucks.

“The successes have happened. More than 1 in 10 CEOs of Fortune 500 companies are now Indian immigrants who studied in the US,” the US ambassador added.

Google’s parent company Alphabet has been led by IIT-Kharagpur alumnus Sundar Pichai since 2019.

Satya Nadella was born in Hyderabad and graduated from Mangalore University.

Other Indian-origin CEOs are Shantanu Narayen (Adobe), Arvind Krishna (IBM), Laxman Narasimhan (Starbucks), and Sanjay Mehrotra (Micron).

Garcetti says US President Joe Biden told him to reduce visa wait times.

Aside from that, he said the US mission is getting ready to take on more Indian students this year.

Garcetti told PTI, “He did! It’s the first time in American history that a president has told an ambassador to shorten visa waiting times.

We have Indian friends, who want to see their family members and colleagues, or business partners.”
