EPFO 3.0: The Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is set to launch an upgraded version known as EPFO 3.0, introducing several new features. One important feature includes the ability to withdraw provident fund (PF) money via ATMs. To facilitate this, the labor ministry plans to issue a card for PF withdrawals. However, withdrawals will be capped at 50% of the total deposit.

Other planned improvements include the option for individuals to contribute beyond the current 12% cap, and the possibility of converting PF savings into a pension. These changes aim to enhance the flexibility and accessibility of the EPFO system for its members.

EPFO 3.0 Upgrade: What will it offer?

The EPFO 3.0 upgrade is expected to roll out between May and June 2025, introducing several notable changes. According to Hindustan Times, one of the most significant updates is the removal of the 12% contribution cap, allowing employees the option to contribute as much as they wish to their provident fund. However, employers’ contributions will remain fixed, based on the employee’s salary.

The government is also exploring the option to convert provident fund savings into a pension, provided the employee agrees.

There’s also a possibility that the salary limit for the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) scheme could be raised. The last increase in the salary ceiling occurred in September 2024, when it was raised from ₹6,500 to ₹15,000, marking the first adjustment in 10 years.

Though these developments are still in the early stages of discussion, they reflect the government’s efforts to enhance flexibility and benefits within the EPF system.
