Security guard stole question papers for Rs 17 lakhs

Bengaluru: Central crime branch officials have finally unfolded the mystery behind the question paper leak of various job recruitment exams.  The investigation has revealed that the person behind the leak was a security guard from Manipal technology unit printing press in Udupi and was arrested on Monday.

Anil Francis who is currently working in a private company in Sharjah, UAE was a security guard in the Manipal printing press but has quit his job in October 2018.

In November 2018, constable recruitment exam in police force question paper was leaked and also paper leak was found in Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) job recruitment exam too.  150 candidates were arrested in the leak case which consists of 125 candidates appearing for two exams. Out of which a candidate named Ameer Ahmed was also there to whom Anil has sold the question papers for Rs 17 Lakh.

Ameer who owns a travel agency got connected to Anil over Facebook through a common friend last year, as Anil was a security guard at the Manipal Press unit he decided to earn more money by leaking the papers to Ameer.

The investigation officials revealed that the guard stole the question papers from a shredder room of the printing press.  He then photocopied the paper and handed over to Ameer.

Later, Ameer sold the papers to prime accused CT Basavaraju for Rs 55 lakhs who in turn passed on the papers to the candidates for 8 lakh each.

A raid was conducted when the mastermind behind the leak, Shivkumaraiah held a tutorial at a school where the papers were passed. Police arrested 117 candidates,  Shivkumaraiah and his assistant but Basavaraju managed to flee away from the place and went underground.

Basavaraj and Ahmed were involved in the 2010 COMED-K question paper leak, they were arrested in connection with the 2014 APCET question paper leak.
