“Coronavirus does not see a person’s religion, caste, race, or colour before striking,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said last month while making an appeal to follow social distancing norms and support administration to make nationwide lockdown to control the outbreak of deadly COVID-19 a success. But some people are apparently trying to create confusion that a particular community is flouting lockdown.
A video is being shared on social media platforms with claims that Muslims in the Jamalpur area of Gujarat’s Ahmedabad is flouting rules and gathering at a mosque. The video was posted by Jitu Desai on April 29 with a caption in Gujarati which roughly translates to “View of Jamalpur from Ahmedabad … In this situation, the lockdown will not open till 3 May.”
The same video was shared by Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia. However, he did not mention any date.
Soon the video went viral on social media platforms.
TRUTH BEHIND THESE REPORTS:
The video being shared on social media platforms is of March 23, before the nationwide lockdown was announced. There’s a tweet of Mumbai Mirror which shared the video on March 23 with caption – @MumbaiPolice vacates Temkar Mohalla Masjid in Dongri.

altnews has also done a story clearly stating that the video being shared is one month old and was shot outside a mosque in Mumbai.
This proves that some people are sharing an old video with a false claim that Muslims gathered outside a mosque in Ahmedabad’s Jamalpur
