Jaipur, April 29, 2025 — Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has taken the cricketing world by storm, yet the prodigious batter insists his audacious first-ball sixes are “just normal” after lighting up the IPL with a record-breaking century.

In only his third IPL appearance, Suryavanshi smashed a 38-ball 101 for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans on Monday night, becoming the youngest centurion in T20 history. The whirlwind knock featured 11 sixes and seven fours, with a staggering 94 of his runs coming in boundaries.

He had already signalled his intent on debut, cracking 34 runs off 20 balls—including another first-ball six—that shone the spotlight on the boy from Samastipur, Bihar.

“It was a normal thing for me,” Suryavanshi told the IPLT20 website. “I have played Under-19 for India and at the domestic level, where I have hit first-ball sixes. I wasn’t under pressure to survive the first 10 balls. If the ball came in my radar, I would hit it.”

Despite facing international bowlers on one of cricket’s biggest stages, the teenager says he maintained his usual approach. “Yes, the stage was big,” he admitted, “but I was just playing my game.”

Born in 2010—three years after the IPL’s inception—Suryavanshi is the first player younger than the league itself to score a hundred in it. The feat extends Rajasthan Royals’ run of faith in youth, as they identified him at a trial and fast-tracked him into their squad.

I am more excited to play under Rahul Dravid sir than playing in IPL: Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Suryavanshi paid heartfelt tribute to his family for the sacrifices behind his rise. “My mother wakes at 3 a.m. after sleeping barely three hours to prepare my meals. My father left his work to support me. Our household runs with great difficulty, but papa backs me,” he said. “God ensures those who work hard never fail. Our success is because of my parents.”

He also thanked the Royals’ management—batting coach Vikram Rathour, team manager Romi Bhinder and head coach Rahul Dravid—for their unwavering support. “To be trained by Rahul sir is a dream come true. The seniors and staff give me confidence that I can win games for the team without worrying about what comes next.”

Looking ahead, Suryavanshi has set his sights on donning the national colours. “I want to contribute for India,” he declared. “I can’t stop working hard until I achieve that level.”

At an age when most are still learning the game, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is already scripting a new chapter in IPL folklore—one six at a time.
