Foldable Smartphone Sales Surge by 72% in China: Foldable Smartphones have finally begun to acquire traction in the Chinese smartphone market. When overall Smartphone sales have decreased for eleven consecutive quarters, it is quite remarkable to observe the positive trend in foldable sales.

Foldable Smartphone Sales Surge by 72% in China

Huawei’s most recent introduction of a foldable device has propelled the company to the top of the sales chart. Due to the Huawei Mate X3’s captivating design and specifications, the second quarter of 2023 witnessed robust sales. Additionally, the onboard software enabled the foldable smartphone to achieve optimum sales. However, Oppo was able to obtain second place, with Samsung falling to third. Fold 4 and Flip 4 accounted for the majority of Samsung’s sales last year, as the new foldables were introduced only recently.

Vivo, Honour, and Xiaomi maintained their respective fourth, fifth, and sixth positions in terms of sales for the first half of 2023.

Huawei manages to secure fifty percent of the foldable market share among all OEMs. Meanwhile, Samsung follows with 40% market share overall. As a result of strong sales in recent months, the market share of other manufacturers is projected to increase as well.

Which type of design dominates the market?

The large display of the Horizontal Flip aka Fold form factor appears to be attracting more consumers. The report indicates that foldable packaging accounted for 55% of sales. Huawei achieves first place in this form factor, followed by Samsung and Honour in consecutive order.

However, the vertical display, also known as the Flip form factor, is gradually gaining ground.

Intriguingly, Huawei dominates China’s ultra-luxury foldable smartphone market with phones costing over $1,400.
