Haryana: Two sent to jail after held guilty under Gauvansh Sanrakhshan Act

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik suspended the former MLA Naveen Nanda from the party on Monday, July 2, after receiving the reports of Nanda being indulged in malicious incidents in Kolkata.

BJD secretary Bijay Nayak said in a statement that it was reported that Nanda was arrested by the police in Kolkata, after which Patnaik took the bold move of suspending Naveen Nanda from the party.

Nanda was arrested on Saturday from a spa. The police say that sex racket had been under action inside the spa. The Kolkata Police said on Monday that the sex racket under the guise of the beauty parlour in the park street area of the city was busted on Saturday and 18 people were arrested. Nanda has accepted the fact that he is arrested but said that this is a conspiracy against him.

The accused Nanda has defended himself by saying that, “while I was shopping on Saturday at about seven o’clock in the evening, someone stole my mobile phone and wallet. I followed the burglar but he entered the spa. I reached the spa behind him and the police arrested me on the suspicion that I am a customer. Since I did not have mobile, I could not contact my family members for help.”

Claiming that he had no intention of visiting the spa, Nanda said he will take legal resort against the conspiracy and his arrest. However, the party did not entertain any of his arguments and suspended Nanda from the BJD.

For the time being, the court has granted him bail.
