In a sudden turn of events, former Bharatiya Janata Party Karnataka President Ajjikuttira Kariappa Subbaiah passed away on Tuesday afternoon in Bengaluru due to age related complications. He was 85 and suffering from kidney-related ailment since many years. He also underwent Dialysis four or five times.

Doctors attending on him in Manipal Hospitals said he had suffered a renal failure two years ago and was on dialysis since then.

Known as a straight-laced politician, he was known for his straight, bold and fearless speech. AK Subbaiah started off as a firebrand politician and later, went on to become a leading advocate and social activist.

Subbaiah served as the Congress Member of the Legislative Council between 1988 and 1994. Prior to joining the Congress, AK Subbaiah was the first Karnataka state President of the BJP. Under his leadership, BJP had won more than 12 seats in Karnataka in 1983 and created a new record.
