Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly confirmed on Monday that he has received an anonymous death threat on January‎ 7. Ganguly, who is also the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), said he has informed the Kolkata police. However, no formal complaint has been lodged in this regard.

Ganguly said the threat is related to his visit to Midnapore‎. He is due to attend a felicitation by the Midnapore University on January 19. Ganguly has also informed the police in Midnapore and the university authorities about the episode.

When asked whether he would go to Midnapore, the former cricketing star said he hasn’t yet decided.

“Yes I’ve received the letter on January 7 and I’ve informed this to the police and the organizers. ‎Let’s see, nothing has been decided yet but it will be a live show programme and you all will come to know if I go there,” Ganguly said while talking to the press.

Ganguly spoke to reporters following a working committee meeting of the CAB. The meet was called to talk about implementing the Lodha Commission’s recommendations. Reportedly, the CAB has sought clarity on the nomination of some of its existing office-bearers. It will call a Special General Meeting soon to decide.

As per the reports, the threat letter addresses his mother Nirupa. It reads, “Your son is hereby warned not to attend the programme. If he dares to come here, you will not see him again,” a source said as per a report in HT.
