The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on early Thursday morning arrested former Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) Secretary, Ashirbad Behera in connection with Artha Tatwa chit fund scam. Along with him, Kamalakanta Das, owner of a hotel, has also been arrested by the central agency in this connection.
Going by the various reports, it has emerged that CBI conducted a surprise raid at Behera’s Cuttack residence on Thursday morning and apprehended him.
Before the apprehension, CBI briefly attempted to question Behera and his family members regarding the case. However, his son Sanjay Behera refuted all the allegations claiming that the arrest was conducted over a plan to spoil their chances of success in the upcoming OCA elections.
Behera had been under the scanner of CBI since 2014. Earlier, the agency had interrogated Behera several times over allegations on his links with the AT Group. Besides the chit fund scam, Behera is in trouble for another case — Barabati Stadium land grabbing allegations.
