Months after being on run, rape-accused ex-UP minister Gayatri Prajapati was detained on Wednesday from the city by Lucknow Police. “Prajapati was arrested from Aashiyana area of the city early this morning,” said senior superintendent of Police, Lucknow, Manzil Saini.
So far, six other accused have already been arrested in the case. The 49-year-old was sent before a POCSO court that remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. Prajapati was charged on a Supreme Court order.
An FIR was registered on February 17 against the former SP minister. He and six others are accused of gang-raping a woman and attempting to rape her minor daughter.
“I am innocent. This is a conspiracy to malign me,” said Prajapati.
