The much-anticipated teaser of Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Gangubai Kathiwadi’ has been unveiled on the occasion of the filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s birthday.
The 90-second long teaser shows Alia in a never-before-seen avatar. Alia plays the titular role of Gangubai, who’s sold into prostitution. But she builds a life of her own becoming the madam of a brothel.
Alia looks powerful while giving a few punchlines in the trailer including, “Gangu chand thi, aur chand hi rahegi.” Another scene shows her slapping and kicking men out on the streets.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Bhansali Productions handle tweeted the new poster ahead of releasing the teaser of the film. The poster was captioned, “Fiery and feisty, she’s ready to reign! Celebrating the man, his vision, and 10th directorial, #GangubaiKathiawadi. Teaser out today. In cinemas on 30th July, 2021.”

The plot of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ revolves around the life of a young girl who was sold into prostitution and her journey towards becoming the madam of a brothel in Kamathipura.
For those uninitiated, Gangubai was born in Kathiawadi, Gujarat, into a family of lawyers. As a teenager, she was enamoured by the world of Mumbai’s movie industry but found the reality to be very different after reaching Mumbai. Gangu who had run from home with her father’s clerk was sold her off in Kamathipura for a sum of Rs 500.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali has used a chapter from Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai on her life for his film.
