On Sunday night, a Christian cemetery in South Goa saw hundreds of its gravestones being vandalized, the police are currently on the lookout for the persons involved in this act.

According to Curchorem Police Inspector Shivram Vaingankar, several gravestones were destroyed by reprobates at Guardian Angel Christian Cemetery.  The CCTV camera which was installed at the gate of the cemetery was also found broken.

Police, however, has not yet identified the miscreants and therefore no arrest has been made till now in connection with the immoral cemetery incident.

The Police inspector confirmed that one of the locals have spotted a man running out of cemetery at around 4.30 am. He said, “We are working on various leads and once we find the details about the man, an arrest will be made”.

This is not the first time Goa has witnessed such attacks on religious symbols. At least nine Holy crosses and a temple have been violated since July 1 in the state leading to heightened police presence in several areas of South Goa.

Following such spate of attacks on sacred symbols, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had given strict instructions to the police to increase patrolling around sensitive areas in the state.

Furthermore, two platoons of India Reserve Battalion were also deployed in South Goa to help local police in patrolling these areas. Local police stations were also asked to form Special Investigation Teams (SIT). So far, police have failed to make any breakthrough in all the nine places where such incidents took place.
