‘Severe’ Delhi air emergency may dissipate over weekend

As quoted in several reports, weather experts said there is a significant improvement in wind speed and it would increase gradually. Winds gusting up to 20-25 kilometres per hour are likely in the region from Sunday to Tuesday, they said.

Till Friday, at least four of the 38 stations in Delhi breached the 500 mark, the highest level of pollution on the air quality index (AQI) scale, while more than 20 stations recorded AQI above 480 when pollution levels shot beyond the ‘emergency’ category in the national capital.

The air pollution level has increased so much that the Environment Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority (EPCA) had to declare a public health emergency and the Delhi government announced that all schools in the Capital will remain closed till November 5.
