Google and Microsoft Layoffs: In 2024, Google and Microsoft will cut up to 1,000 jobs from different divisions of their teams.

Google Cloud has given pink slips to around 100 employees, while Microsoft has asked around 1,000 employees to leave.

Despite the massive changes both companies are going through as they pivot to AI in their operations, any major layoff news makes the market nervous, as it did this time.

Google Cloud Layoffs

CNBC reported that Google Cloud has reduced its sales and engineering teams as part of its effort to reduce operating costs.

In total, 100 people have been laid off this month, and Google has been quoted as saying the layoffs are part of its focus on critical businesses.

Several rounds of layoffs have already been conducted by Google in 2024 across different divisions, including some engineers whose work is being outsourced to Google branches in India and Mexico.

In a recent internal memo, Sundar Pichai outlined these changes, stating that layoffs would be cut by the second half of 2024.

Sacks Thousands At Microsoft

As part of its restructuring process, Microsoft has reportedly laid off 1,000 employees from its Mixed Reality team.

CNBC reported that these employees worked on the HoloLens 2 development and are part of the company’s broad plans.
