Google to invest $10 billon in India as part of Google For India Digitalisation Fund: Sundar Pichai

Google to invest $10 billon in India over 5-7 years as a part of Google For India Digitalisation Fund

Google CEO Sundar Pichai on Monday announced that search engine giant will invest $10 billion through a new digitisation fund over the next 5-7 years.

Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, took to Twitter to make this announcement. The tweet read, “Today at #GoogleForIndia we announced a new $10B digitization fund to help accelerate India’s digital economy. We’re proud to support PM @narendramodi’s vision for Digital India – many thanks to Minister @rsprasad & Minister @DrRPNishank for joining us.”

The investment will be made towards affordable access to information, building new products, empowering businesses to become digital, AI in health, education, and agriculture, Pichai said. He added that the huge investment reflects Google’s confidence in the future of India and its digital economy.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sundar Pichai discussed issues such as leveraging the power of technology to transform the lives of India’s farmers and youth. Modi also took to Twitter and wrote, “This morning, had an extremely fruitful interaction with Sundar Pichai. We spoke on a wide range of subjects, particularly leveraging the power of technology to transform the lives of India’s farmers, youngsters, and entrepreneurs”.

“I was delighted to know more about the efforts of Google in several sectors, be it in education, learning, Digital India, furthering digital payments and more,” he said in another tweet.

The Prime Minister termed that interaction “fruitful” and lauded Google’s efforts in the field of education, Digital India, and digital payments.
