Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested a domestic worker working at the residence of Union Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal on charges of breaching computer and leaking important information to outsider.

Vishnu Kumar Vishwakarma worked as house help at Piyush Goyal’s residence at the plush high-rise named Villa Orb in Mumbai’s Nepean Sea Road area. He is currently in judicial custody. He was arrested from the national capital on Tuesday and brought to Mumbai yesterday, a police official told reporters.

The alleged theft came to light on September 19 when Goyal’s wife, who was traveling outside Mumbai, returned and found valuables including silver vessels, some antique items and clothes missing.

Gamdevi police tracked Vishwakarma to Delhi and arrested him a few days ago. He was interrogated and some stolen items were recovered from him.

However, police suspected that some confidential data was stolen from Piyush Goyal’s personal computer and also documents from his files. This led cops to check Vishwakarma’s phone. On further verification, it was found that Vishwakarma had sent some emails to unidentified persons and had deleted some data from the phone.

The police registered a case under IPC sections 381 (theft by a servant), 405 (criminal breach of trust) and the Information Technology Act.
