Govt Vehicles Fitness Test Fees: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has also changed the rules for vehicle fitness test fees across the country. The process has become stricter because the government has added a new age based system. Earlier, higher fees applied only after a vehicle crossed 15 years, but now this limit starts at 10 years. The new rules apply right away under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (Fifth Amendment).

What is the rate of vehicle fitness test?
The fitness test cost now changes based on the vehicle’s age. Under the new rules, older vehicles must pay higher fees, unlike before when all 15+ year vehicles had one flat rate.
- Vehicles between 10 to 15 years of age
- Vehicles between 15 to 20 years of age
- Vehicles older than 20 years in age
There are now three age groups: 10–15 years, 15–20 years, and above 20 years. Fees rise as the vehicle grows older.

Reports say that the new rules will impact two-wheelers, three-wheelers, quadricycles, light motor vehicles and even medium and heavy commercial vehicles. Business Today said that fitness fees will now start going up once the vehicle crosses 10 years. Under the updated Rule 81, even vehicles that are not yet 15 years old will face extra charges.
Before this every vehicle older than 15 years had to pay the same fee, but the government has replaced that with a slab system. Now the fee depends fully on the age of the vehicle.
