Such figures may put a question mark on the education system in Gujarat i.e., worst result in 6 years. Gujarat Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GSHSEB) class 10 result has been the worst in the last six years.

This year, a total of 7,92,942 students appeared in the exam, out of which only 4,80,845 students were able to pass. 39% of the students i.e. 3.10 lakh candidates appeared in the exam have got failed in the maths paper. This made mathematics the subject with the worst pass percentage of the year.

At the same time, 1,00,348 examinees (14.51%) failed in the Gujarati subject selected as the first language. This time 7.72 lakh students crushed the board examination. The passing mark in this exam was 33 percent. Students had to bring 33 per cent marks in every subject to pass the exam.

Among the regular candidates, 66.02% girls were successful in class and 56.53% boys. The number of schools with 0% result across the state was 63 in the year 2019, which increased to 174 this year. In addition, the number of schools with results of 30% or less has increased from 995 last year to 1,939.

Also, as against 4,974 students who scored A grade (91 to 100 marks) in the year 2019, only 1,671 students got A grade this time. At the same time, compared to 366 schools that gave 100% results last year, only 291 schools achieved this feat.

GSHSEB Chairman, AJ Shah blamed two factors for the poor results. He said, “Since last year, students have been studying NCERT textbooks. Furthermore, from the OMR-based system, we have shifted to descriptive exam-writing methods. Also, tough question papers were set with the intention of preparing students for competitive exams. ”

Last year, the overall pass percentage was 66.97%. The lowest result in recent years came in 2015 when only 61.5% of students passed the examination.
