After the exit polls suggested Modi wave in Uttar Pradesh and BJP making noteworthy gains in Uttarakhand and Manipur, while retaining Goa on Thursday, the state BJP seems to be in mood for early polls in Gujarat to continue the victory trend.
BJP national president Amit Shah, accompanied by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and other top brass of the party, held a meeting at party headquarters Kamalam on Thursday evening. The BJP has already declared that the unit is ready to face election anytime. Amit Shah also held individual meetings with senior party leaders at his residence.
“The meeting only discussed the issues related to elections in five states that just got over. Discussing early polls in Gujarat was not on the agenda of the meet,” said the state party president Jitu Vaghani while speaking to Mirror.
However, sources close to the development said after considering the exits polls and internal survey of the BJP, the party is on a winning streak. “It would be best to encash this performance by declaring early election in Gujarat immediately after school and college examinations get over,” said a top leader of the BJP. Another party source said the BJP wishes to hold polls in Gujarat latest by May end.
“At present everybody is talking about factions and groupism within the state unit of the BJP but once the UP results are out, Shah is likely to be given a free hand to plan Gujarat election. Once that happens, tickets will be distributed not to appease various factions but to ensure clean sweep for the party,” said a source as per the report in Ahmedabad Mirror.
BJP spokesperson Bharat Pandya confirms, “A meeting was held under the aegis of Amit Shah to discuss party’s organisational affairs. The meeting was followed by a meeting of BJP social media cell.”
