Gwalior shelter home case: Contraceptive injected to inmates to stop mensuration

Yet another inhuman behaviour with the inmates of shelter home has come to light on Sunday. Caretakers of Snehalaya shelter home in Gwalior has been arrested after shocking revelations by a team of women and child development divulged. The team informed that the shelter home inmates were given contraceptive injections and sleeping pills.

There was a report of rape with a 24-year-old visually challenged and speech impaired shelter home inmate. After this the team had interrogated the other inmates of the ashram to dig further information. The interrogation revealed that the girls were injected contraceptives to terminate their mensuration cycle. Not just that, they were also given sleeping pills every night which was mixed in their dinner on a regular basis.

Apart from contraceptives and sleeping pills other medicines were also recovered from the shelter home in Gwalior. The visually-impaired girl was raped by the ashram’s Watchman on September 18. When it was discovered that the victim has conceived out of the rape, she was forced by the director of Snehalaya Dr BK Sharma to abort the foetus. Later, the foetus was burnt to destroy the evidence.

Police has arrested nine people so far in the matter. The four doctors who were involved in the abortion have also been taken under custody.
