Gwalior to Develop ‘Cricket Corridor’ with Master Blaster Theme

Gwalior is set to get a first-of-its-kind Cricket Corridor as the city administration plans to transform Sachin Tendulkar Marg into a cricket-themed boulevard celebrating the legacy of Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar.

The redevelopment project aims to turn the road into a major attraction for cricket fans by incorporating artwork, installations, and landscaping inspired by the sport and the “Master Blaster.” The initiative is expected to blend urban beautification with sports tourism, creating a unique public space that reflects Gwalior’s growing association with cricket.

On February 24, 2010, at the Captain Roop Singh Stadium in Gwalior, Sachin Tendulkar created history by becoming the first batter to score a double century in One-Day Internationals. His unbeaten 200 against South Africa remains one of cricket’s most iconic innings.

Cricket-Themed Road Design

According to the plan, the entire stretch of Sachin Tendulkar Marg will feature:

  • Large cricket bat-themed artistic installations along the road divider.
  • Decorative structures inspired by cricket equipment.
  • Sachin Tendulkar’s autograph engraved on selected installations.
  • Walls and public spaces painted with murals depicting memorable moments from cricket history and Sachin’s illustrious career.
  • Dedicated photo points for visitors and cricket enthusiasts.

Officials believe the project will provide residents and tourists with an immersive cricket experience while enhancing the city’s identity.

Smart City Initiative

The redevelopment is being carried out under the Smart City initiative following directions from Gwalior Collector Ruchika Chauhan. Additional Commissioner Pratik Rao has instructed the Smart City team to ensure the road reflects a distinct cricketing identity.

Authorities have also directed officials to properly mark footpaths and improve pedestrian safety to make the corridor more accessible and visitor-friendly.

Focus on Sustainability

The project goes beyond beautification by incorporating environmental measures. The Municipal Corporation plans to develop roadside water-harvesting systems to improve groundwater recharge and rainwater conservation.

Officials said the initiative aligns with environmental conservation efforts while also helping to reduce dust and improve the corridor’s overall aesthetics. The Pollution Control Department has been asked to ensure necessary environmental compliance.

A Tribute to Sachin Tendulkar

The civic body says the project is intended not only to modernize the road but also to create a lasting tribute to Sachin Tendulkar’s contribution to Indian cricket. By combining sports-themed art, greenery, environmental initiatives, and modern urban infrastructure, the administration hopes to establish the corridor as one of Gwalior’s landmark attractions.
