Hanuman Jayanti 2020: Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated to mark the birth of Bajrang Bali (Lord Hanuman) with great enthusiasm. This is one of the many incarnations of Lord Shiva. According to the Hindu calendar, Hanuman Jayanti falls on Chaitra Purnima, this time it will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.

Lord Hanuman fondly known as superhuman monkey god is a symbol of power, restraint, loyalty, and celibacy.

This year, Hanuman Jayanti falls on Chaitra Purnima, this time it will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 8. The Purnima Tithi will start at 12.07 PM on April 7 and will end at 8.04 AM.

History: Hanuman Jayanti 2020

As per the legend, he was born to Anjana, the wife of Vanaraja Kesari (king of monkeys). It is believed that Anjana was cursed by Muni Vishwamitra for disturbing him. He cursed Anjana and said that she will give birth to a monkey next month.

Then, Anjana worshipped Lord Shiva to seek his blessings and get rid of the curse. She urged Shiva to be a part of her son and it is believed that Pawan Dev (Wind God) once met Anjana and mated with her following which Lord Hanuma was born and that is why he is also known as ‘Pawan Putra’.

Another legend says that King Dasharatha performed ritual of Putrakameshti yagna in order to have children following which he received some scared payasam. However, a kite snatched a fragment of it and the Pawan Dev handed it to Anjana, and Lord Hanuman was born.

Significance: Hanuman Jayanti 2020

It is marked on the 15th day of the month of Chaitra, the day of Chaitra Purnima. He was born in the month of Chaitra after 12 years of penance by his mother Anjani.

With Lord Hanuman’s help, Lord Rama could defeat demon king Ravana and save his wife Sita. The birth of Lord Hanuman is celebrated as Hanuman Jayanti and it holds utmost importance to Hindus.
