SWA Awards: Ajay Devgn glad about screen writing awards, urges to appreciate writers

Ajay Devgn is turning 51 this year and while we all are quarantining and so is he practicing self-isolation in his home. The actor can even give 30-year-old guys a run for the money with his brooding good looks and brawny built. Son of popular stunt director Veeru Devgan, Ajay has been active in the film industry since 1991, after making a debut with Phool Aur Kaante.

This time he won’t be celebrating his grand birthday due to the pandemic but here’s the best way to celebrate his birthday by going down the memory lane and that goes by watching his iconic films that gave us all kicks.

Once Upon a Time In Mumbai

The inspiration for the character of Sultan Mirza (Ajay Devgan) was certainly derived from the Robin hood Smuggler Haji Mastan Mirza. Sultan’s attire, his background, his occupation, his interest in the welfare of the poor, his love for a Bollywood heroine and the production of movies are obvious parallels to Mastan. Devgan portrays his character with ease and familiarity but makes a remarkable impression with the dialogues written by Rajat Arora.

Gangaajal

Apart from Devgan’s powerhouse performance, it’s practically the whole cast that deserves to be applauded for doing justice to their various roles as well, above all Manoj Joshi and Yashpal Sharma deliver brilliant performances that just breathes even more life into the film.

Zakhm

Ajay has been in the industry since 1991 and it took him 7 years to give the performance of his life. There is nothing wrong with ‘Zakhm’. It got Nargis Dutt Award for national integration and Ajay got national awards for his acting. Mr. Bhatt wrote an unforgettable story and two of its songs are still popular. The story is about a Muslim woman who marries a Hindu man but disguises herself as Hindu in front of her sons. When she gets burned during riots, her elder son (Ajay) makes sure that she gets the proper burial.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

This one is mostly remembered for Salman-Aishwarya Jodi but it has got a stupendous performance from Ajay. Its plot has been adopted from a Bengali novel ‘Na Hanyate’ written by Maitreyi Devi . The film is divided into totally two different parts. The first half has got great comic timings and the second half is damn too serious. The story is about how a husband makes sure that his wife meets her true love.

Drishyam

Ajay makes up for the time he was away from serious movies and excels scene by scene, Shriya does well too. Tabu is menacing and yet a mother aptly supported by Rajat.
