Bollywood’s prominent actor and theatre artist, Ratna Pathak has turned a year older. The actor is celebrating her 62nd birthday today. She is well-known for her stint in Sarabhai versus Sarabhai.
The actor made her debut back in the 1980s with Mandi (1983) and went on to make her presence felt in several iconic films like Mirch Masala (1987), The Perfect Murder (1988), and Bharat Ek Khoj (1988, TV).
Apart from these, she has also appeared in various movies including the coming-of-age romantic drama Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na in 2008, the action-comedy Golmaal 3 in 2010, romantic-comedy Ek Mai Aur Ekk Tu in 2012, comedy-drama Khoobsurat in 2014, the family-drama Kapoor and Sons in 2016 and the widely acclaimed black-comedy Lipstick Under My Burkha in 2017.
On the occasion of Ratna Pathak’s birthday, let’s have a look at how she met the love of her life Naseeruddin Shah:
When Shah was only 19 years old, he fell in love with a Pakistani medical student, Purveen who was studying at Aligarh Muslim University.
They got married on November 1, 1969, and after 10 months of their wedding, they welcomed their daughter, Heeba. The couple soon faced a lot of differences and decided to separate.
In 1975, Naseer met Ratna Pathak for the first time.
She was a college student and he was an FTII graduate. They were participating in Satyadev Dubey’s play, ‘Sambhog Se Sanyas Tak’.
That was the time when Naseer was recovering from his divorce and formed a bond with Ratna Pathak.
Since Naseer was separated and not divorced, he could not marry Ratna earlier. So, they decided to stay in a live-in relationship. On April 1, 1982, they had a registered wedding at Ratna’s mother’s home.
After Purveen passed away, Heeba came to stay with Ratna and Naseeruddin Shah. Naseer and Ratna together have two sons, Imaad and Vivaan who share a good rapport with their half-sister.
