Happy Birthday Yuvraj Singh: The Punjabi boy who became one of the most loved cricketers in world

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh will celebrate his 39th birthday on December 12. Considered as one of the greatest all-rounders of the game, his contributions to India’s T20 and ODI World Cup triumphs will always be cherished.

Yuvraj Singh has over 10,000 international runs in over 400 appearances and has been India’s go-to player on numerous occasions.

Making his India debut in 2000, Yuvraj had announced his retirement from international cricket on June 10, 2019. From winning two World Cups to even beating cancer out of the park, Yuvraj has gained all the love and affection.

A career that spanned over 304 ODIs, 58 T20Is, and 40 Tests, Yuvraj imprinted his place in the echelons of cricket as a player. Yuvraj, who announced his retirement earlier this year, made his ODI debut in 2000 and went onto play 304 games scoring 8701 runs with 14 centuries and 52 half-centuries to his name.

On his special day, we will tell you eight interesting facts about him:

  • As a child, Yuvi loved to do roller-skate and has also won the under-14 championships in roller-skating.
  • Yuvi’s lucky number & jersey number is 12, but do you know that he was born in 1981 on the 12th day of the 12th month, on 12 in the noon in Chandigarh’s Sector 12 hospital.
  • In September 2012, he took the noble initiative and started an organization called ‘YouWeCan’, a non-profitable foundation to help spread awareness of Cancer. The organization has treated more than hundreds of cancer patients.
  • Yuvi did a voice-over in the movie ‘Jumbo’, produced by Akshay Kumar.
  • Yuvraj’s first break-out performance was in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy Final of 1999 against Bihar at Jamshedpur, where he batted at three for Punjab and made 358 runs.
  • He is the only Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar, who has been signed by the infamous English county Yorkshire.
  • In 2006, he was signed by Microsoft as a brand ambassador to endorse their Xbox 360 video game console.
