Happy Mahavir Jayanti 2023: In the Jain community, Mahavir Jayanti, also known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, is one of the most significant festivals, as it commemorates the birth of Vardhamana Mahavira, the twenty-fourth and final Tirthankara (Teaching God) of the current time cycle. Lord Mahavir, according to the scriptures, was the creator of Jainism. This is why this day is commemorated so enthusiastically. The Jain community observes this day by conducting rath yatras in which the statue of Mahavir is drawn by a chariot. On this day, devotees chant bhajans and take ceremonial baths. Meditation is also an essential component of this celebration.
It is believed that Lord Mahavir was born in 599 BCE in Vaishali, Bihar, at Kshatriyakund. His name was Vardhamana. At the age of 30, he abandoned the regal lifestyle and all worldly possessions to seek enlightenment. Twelve years of meditation allowed him to attain omniscience. (Kevala Jnana).
